Jacket cover for David Anthony Durham's "The Sacred Band", published by Random House.

On this piece I used my usual back and forth blend of greyscale underpainting and texture overlays, but with more emphasis on lasso work to get separation between the different mountain planes.

The picture shows an important location in the book, "Where the Mountains Cry the Sea". I was lucky - I sent 7 sketches to the publisher and they went with my favourite :)

Thanks wasker, unfortunately the jacket design hid most of the mountain work.

I love it! Your cover is exactly the kind of cover that makes me immediately pick up a book, throw it upon the counter, and yell "Sell me this!" Do you happen to have the other "sketches" available on the interweb?

I'm afraid not, but I'll see if I can't make a blog or something to share the background stuff. Some of the sketches were interesting, since they all described different parts of the book. Thanks for your interest
