For a contest at CGTalk, the theme Journey Begins was my own idea. The road used a 3d model as basis to help with perspective.

What a simple composition and yet fantastic vision
    and such an exquisite painting

you know you´ll probably get studied in the future when it comes to modeling and digital painting.

I cannot stop to marvel at this piece. The colours totally get me. I've been staring at this for a couple of minutes now, and I'm still fascinated by them. You got so much depth going on here which is achieved solely by the colours only. The atmospheric perspective is so strong, and the road of course is a wonderful element to lead the eye into the image. I love how it follows and thus accentuates the shape of the landscape, hiding in the valleys and reappearing at the top. The two cities are a nice pay-off for the eye, and balance out the two girls.

You nicely managed to give this more dimension with the low clouds and their cast shadows on the land, and I love how the cloud repeat into the distance, giving the image a great scale.

The whole feeling of this painting is interesting. It feels like a not too distant future, but without the negative touch that so many of those pieces have. The road may be broken, but the cities are white, the weather nice, plants grow. This is totally inviting, I want to step into this image right now and wander down the street with those girls.
Haha, the little palm guy confuses me a little, he seems a little alien there, but that does not really bother me.

The only thing that bugged me a tiny weeny bit, is that the road in front of the far girl does seem less clearly painted than the girl, who is a little farther away, but seems more definite. I just think those big cracks could do with a tad more dark tones in them. But that is me nitpicking.

Last but not least, I of course love how you did the girls as well, especially the close one adds a certain sense of motion to the image, and her pose looks natural and dynamic. The forground simply adds a lot to the image, without even looking too dark. That's something I certainly need to learn, too. To create some contrasts with colours rather than with values.

Wonderful work, I am thoroughly impressed, and very much in love with this image. This is something that I would love to have hanging on my wall as a print.
