Kraken are legendary sea monsters of gargantuan size, said to have dwelt off the coasts. The sheer size and fearsome appearance attributed to the beasts have made them common in various fictional works. In this one, Mecha, walking vehicle is resembling the shape of Kraken, it is a system of many artificial limbs controlled by pilot.
