This is the night Philippe le Bel sent his armed militia to arrest all the Templars in France. A few managed to escape, allegedly with some treasure, and perhaps even the "holy Grail", whatever this may be. The chest certainly contains interesting, if not detrimental documents or items. At this point, the soldiers of Philippe can be heard hammering at the front door. The escape, if successful, will be very adventurous.

    i heard the Holy Grail is not some cup thingy, but actually piece of paper with secret knowledge something like that.
